The Lord cares deeply when his loved ones die.
(Psalm 116:15 NLT)
My thoughts turned to this verse when the news unfolded that terrorists had attacked a church and killed a number of Christians there one Sunday. God’s Word was of great comfort as I remembered it saying that the blood of His faithful followers is precious in His sight; it doesn’t go unnoticed by Him. At that time, I had a similar longing as that of the Prophet Jeremiah, “I wish that my eyes were fountains of tears, so I could cry day and night for my people who were killed” (Jeremiah 9:1 CEV). I recalled Jesus’ words to His disciples, as I continued to read the news and look at the horrible images before me, “And the time will come when people will kill you and think they are doing God a favor” (John 16:2 CEV). So while the news didn’t offer any comfort, God’s Word certainly did and that was more than enough.
God is deeply concerned when one of His followers faces death.
