He said to another man, “Follow me.”
But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.” Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
(Luke 9:59-62 NIV)
Whenever it comes to following Jesus, something always gets in the way. In today’s passage, the people who said that they’d follow Jesus wanted to take care of things at home first, but He demanded their full attention and commitment. He knew that if they didn’t make the decision then, that they’d never get around to it (actually, we never hear of these people again!). It’s the same today. Jesus is still looking for people who will follow Him, people who are committed to Him. Will you follow Him today?
Make a decision to follow Jesus today.
