Truthful lips endure forever. (Proverbs 12:19 NIV)
My father was a man of his word. At his funeral, this is something that I kept hearing from those who knew him well; something that I knew to be true of him all my life. After all, I watched him keep his word not only to his own family, but to everyone else. If he promised to do something or be there for someone, he did, no matter what. This is one of the many things I admired about him. It’s something that I’m still learning to get better at.

This year for Father’s Day, I’m looking back at some of the valuable lessons he taught me.
My father exemplified a trait that we see in the heavenly Father. God always keeps His Word, whether we think we’re deserving or not. God is a Promise Keeper. One of my all time favorite Scriptures is Joshua 21:45: “Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” Was Israel always worthy of those promises? No, but God is faithful. Every promise He made to His people was fulfilled. The same is still true of Him today. God’s desire is that all of His children be people not just of their word, but also of His Word.
