“Our Father in heaven…Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:1, 11 ESV)
I was raised at a time when it was the norm for the man to be the breadwinner, or provider in the family. We never lacked for anything as long as my dad was around. He gladly gave of his time and resources to ensure that everyone’s needs were met and we were happy. My earthly daddy was just like my heavenly One: always meeting the needs of his children.

In the Lord’s Prayer we see a beautiful example of this as Jesus teaches us to ask God, our Father in heaven, to meet our daily needs. It’s something we’re to expect of Him because He promises to provide for us. After all, His name is Jehovah Jireh, “the Lord will provide” (Genesis 22:14, emphasis added)! We don’t have to worry as long as we know Him as our Provider. The apostle Paul, who had experienced the Father’s provision in every area of his life, reminds us of this truth in Philippians 4:19 (NIV): “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Not just some, but all your needs. Amen!
