Tidings of Comfort and Joy

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11 KJV)

It’s been seven months since my father went to be with Jesus. Ever since, he has often visited me in my dreams, which has been very comforting. Five months ago, I had a dream of him walking with a little girl in his hand. Behind them was a cherry blossom tree. He hugged me tight and then left me with the little girl. It was the most vivid dream ever. Little did I know that the dream would turn out to be a vision in which my dad would bring our family tidings of comfort and joy. See, not long ago we found out that my daddy is about to have a granddaughter next year in mid May, a time when cherry blossom trees are in full bloom (where we live), and also the time when my father went to Heaven. I can’t wait to meet my niece!

Birth announcements are always exciting, especially when they become a source of comfort for those who have experienced some kind of loss – loss of hope, loss of joy. I can imagine the thrill of hope as the shepherds were visited by the angels who shared similar tidings of comfort and joy with them on that first Noel. We know that the baby whose birth they announced was no ordinary baby. He was no other than Christ the Lord, the Savior of the world. He was the baby we didn’t know we needed who would bring us comfort and joy.
