Down But Not Out

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. (2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NIV)

Easter has always been my favorite time of the year. Its message has resonated with me for many years. The idea that we can be down but not out is quite a powerful message. Think about it. Jesus was dead, but He came back to life again! How many of us have been through a similar circumstance where we thought it was the end only to watch God turn it all around? And the best part is, God puts you right back in front of the people who broke you. Now if that isn’t amazing, I’m not sure what is!

It’s part of our human existence to go through trying situations that seem to bring us down. After all, we are human, we will fall at some point. But just like in a boxing match, we have the choice to get back up again and keep fighting. We don’t have to accept defeat. Thankfully, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to help us rise again. He did it for Jesus when He raised Him back to life again and He will do the same for us when life knocks us down (Romans 8:11). As we journey to Easter, let’s take comfort in the fact that our resurrection is coming. We may be down but not out.
