I die daily. (1 Corinthians 15:31 JUB)
Death changes us. After losing two beloved family members a year apart, I lost a part of me that I would never get back. Life took a different turn as I began to live life unbothered by what was going on around me. Trivial matters and people’s opinions no longer mattered. Unless people were contributing to my healing and peace, they were shut out for good. The death of my loved ones made me braver. Because when you lose what matters most and God rebuilds you again, you no longer fear anything or anyone. In my humble opinion, that’s the best way to live.

I believe the apostle Paul adopted the same mentality when he told the Corinthian Christians, “I die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31). When you live with the attitude that nothing matters except a life focused on God’s will rather than one’s own desires, you begin to rise again. There can be no resurrection where there has been no death. For us to experience that resurrection power – Paul’s main focus in First Corinthians 15 – we need to experience a brokenness that only God can mend. So, while we may have to “die daily” to self, we can also count on Christ’s resurrection power to raise us from the dead.
