For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3 NIV)
There’s something about the phrase, “hidden with Christ in God” in today’s passage that captured my attention not long ago. It came up in conversations with family and friends. Someone even told me, “God hides us,” and then I heard a message about how God hides us. So I began to pray for God to hide me. It wasn’t so much a plea for obscurity as much as it was a cry for God’s protection.

Choosing to follow Christ will keep us hidden from people and things that don’t serve our purpose and calling. It’s not that you’re not “seen,” but that you’re not seen as fit for that particular person or thing. It may have been a relationship or a promotion that you felt you were overlooked for, but God hid you for a reason. When God wants you to be seen, He won’t hide you. Imagine hiding something so precious that you won’t just show it to anyone. That’s how I think God feels about us when He hides us with Christ. He hides us from bad influences because we matter to Him.
