July with Jesus

Jesus said to them, `Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while.’ Many people were coming and going. They could not even eat. So they went away in a boat to a lonely place by themselves. (Mark 6:31-32 WE)

For many of us, July is a time to finally slow down and smell the roses. As a teacher, it’s definitely a time to rest and reset. As a Christian, July has also come to define the abundance of time I get to spend with Jesus. Although my relationship with God is not something I take lightly the rest of the year, summertime just allows for more time to focus on God and study the Word (and write!).

Jesus’ disciples could relate. Even though they walked with Jesus every day, the busyness of life sure made it seem like they could never get alone time with their Teacher and best friend. In today’s passage, we hear Jesus’ invitation to them, “‘Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while,'” which they did. “So they went away in a boat to a lonely place by themselves.”

I’m calling this summer getaway, “July with Jesus.” I pray that you will embrace the slowness of the season and in the quietness, find the time to be alone with Jesus. It’ll be worth it. Trust me!
