The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. – Psalm 2:4 (NIV)
As I was praying about a troubling situation recently, the Lord brought Psalm 2:4 to mind: “The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.” I can’t fully explain the peace that swept over me, but it was as if I began to see my situation through the eyes of the God who laughs. Every time the worry tried to creep back in, I remembered that verse — and I started to laugh too.
It reminded me of the woman in Proverbs 31: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” When we realize who God is — the One enthroned in heaven — our fears lose their grip. He’s not pacing the throne room in worry; He is seated, confident, unshaken. And He invites us into that same confidence.

God is so much greater than anything we fear. When we shift our perspective and see our struggles in light of His power, we find peace. And more than that — we find joy. Even Job, in his suffering, was given this promise through his friend Bildad: “He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy” (Job 8:21).
You don’t have to wait for the storm to pass to laugh. Because God is in control, because He will make things right, you can learn to laugh even in the storm. He will yet fill your mouth with laughter.
