“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27 (NIV)
Jesus came into our chaotic world to be our peace. Just as the people of ancient times longed for peace at the time of His birth, our hearts still ache for that same peace today. Long before He arrived, the prophets spoke of Him as the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). And although the world has changed in countless ways, one thing remains the same: turmoil has not disappeared.
I’m talking not only about the turmoil around us, but the unrest within us—the worries, pressures, and daily struggles that threaten to steal our peace. Jesus entered a world marked by political tension, Roman oppression, and deep social and religious division. Yet His life brought a peace unlike anything the world could offer.

He promised this peace to us: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives” (John 14:27). So even when circumstances around us feel uncertain, His presence brings a “peace that surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7, ESV).
His gift of peace is the one we need—not only at Christmas, but every single day. May we receive it with open hearts.
