The people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.
— Matthew 4:16 (NIV)
The greatest gift we have been given is the gift of God’s Light—Jesus Himself. Just as His light was desperately needed that first Christmas, it is still needed today, perhaps more than ever. Darkness continues to permeate our world, but His light has the power to dispel it.
Through Christ, darkness does not have the final word. His light overcomes, restores, and reveals hope, and it shines not only for us but through us to those who are in need. This gift is still freely given to all who seek Him.

When you find yourself in your darkest moments, remember this: Jesus came to shine His light on you. You do not have to remain in the shadows. Instead, you are invited to step into His light and live.
This passage appears at the very beginning of Jesus’ ministry, reminding us that bringing light was central to His mission. Because of Him, we no longer need to hide. His light seeks us out, finds us where we are, and gently guides us toward God.
This Christmas, may we not only remember His birth, but truly celebrate and embrace His precious gift of Light—the Light that still shines in the darkness.
