Light Triumphs Over Darkness

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
— Gospel of John 1:5 (NIV)

Since the beginning of time, there has been a struggle between light and darkness. In fact, the earth was formless and empty, covered in darkness and the very first thing God spoke into existence was light. Jesus came into our dark world as that Light. He shone His love and grace into the very world He came to save. Yet not everyone welcomed Him. His light was so pure and bright that it exposed the darkness around Him. And so, in an attempt to silence Him, His opponents chose the cross, believing they could extinguish His light. But what they did not realize is this: no matter how hard darkness tries, it can never overcome the light.

For a moment, it seemed as though darkness had won. Jesus died and was laid in a tomb. For three days, silence and sorrow filled the air. We’ve all experienced moments like that—times when hope feels buried, prayers seem unanswered, and the darkness feels overwhelming. But it wasn’t long before His light broke through the darkness with power. The resurrection shattered the illusion of defeat and declared victory once and for all. Jesus—the Light of the World—could not be contained by the grave. And even now, His light continues to shine, illuminating our darkest places when we allow Him in. This Easter, may His light meet you in your deepest need. And may you be reminded that no darkness you face is ever greater than the light of Christ.
