The man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob. You have wrestled with God and with men, and you have won. That’s why your name will be Israel.”
(Genesis 32:28 CEV)
For years, Jacob struggled to prevail. First, he struggled with his brother Esau, then with his father-in-law Laban. As he was about to re-enter Canaan, Jacob wrestled with God Himself, and after a long night of wrestling, God allowed him to win. God even renamed him Israel meaning, “he struggles with God.” What a relief it must have been for Jacob to no longer be remembered as a deceiver, but as a man who wrestles with God. What is it that you want? You can spend the rest of your life wrestling with people to prevail, or you can wrestle with the One who is the true source of blessing and overcome.
Those who wrestle with God are prone to overcome.
