“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” — Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV)
In a world where we’re encouraged to knock down doors—to make things happen on our own—Jesus invites us to simply knock and trust God to work things out in His way and in His time. This doesn’t mean we’re to remain passive while we wait. God calls us to take faithful steps, but He also calls us to trust Him with what lies beyond our control. Knocking requires action on our part, but opening the door is something only God can do—and should do.
When we try to force a door open in our own strength, we often leave damage in our wake. We may get what we want, but it comes at a cost. Eventually, something suffers—whether it’s our relationships, health, finances, peace, or the very timing God was trying to protect. Jesus assures those who keep knocking that the door will be opened. He doesn’t expect us to knock doors down; He simply asks us to keep knocking in faith.
So today, bring your needs before God. Keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. Do what He has placed in your hands, and trust Him with what only He can do. When the time is right, He will open the right door. Until then, don’t waste your strength trying to knock it down.
