Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
(Exodus 3:13-14 NIV)
In the writings of the Apostle John, especially in the Gospel that bears his name and in the book of Revelation, we get a thorough answer to Moses’ question through Jesus’ great “I am” statements:
“I am the bread of life.” (John 6:48)
“I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12)
“I am the good shepherd.” (John 10:11)
“I am the resurrection and the life.” (John 11:25)
“I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6)
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 22:13)
And if I may add, “I am your everything.” Now it’s your turn. Who is God to you? “I am ________________.”
God’s name is a representation of everything He is and everything we need.
