Getting Our Joy Back

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.

(Psalm 51:12 NLT)

Only someone who has known the joy of being God’s friend can understand David’s plea in Psalm 51:12. After his sin with Bathsheba, David’s soul was troubled and saddened. He confessed his sin and asked God to restore his joy, and God granted his request. Sin always steals our joy. However, when we confess and repent of our sins, God is willing to restore our joy and grant us a willing spirit to sustain us. We can have our joy back. All we have to do is ask for forgiveness and repent. Then we’ll experience the joy of being God’s friend again.

Sin can steal your joy, but it can’t destroy it.
