A few days ago, I scratched some prayer requests off my prayer list that had been there for a very long time—not because I don’t believe that God can answer them, because He can, but because I’ve come to realize that I can live without them. It’s not about a lack of faith in Him, but about trusting Him enough to know that He knows better.
See, sometimes we keep asking for something that may not even be God’s will for our lives. In the process, we can become mentally and emotionally exhausted. I can’t explain the sense of peace and freedom I felt when I finally decided to surrender it all to Him. Letting go of what I thought I wanted was actually more liberating than continuing to pray for it.
There’s a reason why Jesus taught His disciples—and us—to pray, “Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). God is not a stingy God. He is more eager to give than we’re willing to ask. But sometimes His answer is different from what we hoped for. And even when we don’t understand why He’s saying no, we can trust that His wisdom is greater than ours.
Trust Him—not just because He can give us what we ask for, but because He knows what we need. Sometimes, surrender is the prayer.
