True Beauty

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

(1 Samuel 16:7 NIV)

The world is drawn to good-looking people, but God isn’t. To Him, beauty is truly skin deep. When God decided to replace Saul, who was physically attractive, God reminded His misguided prophet, Samuel, that unlike people who focus on looks–as Samuel was doing–the Lord is concerned with a person’s inner character. Don’t let looks fool you. “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman [or man] who fears the LORD is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30).

There’s more to someone’s looks than meets the eye.
