“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
(Luke 1:34-35 NIV)
Jesus was no ordinary baby. Everything about His birth was extraordinary. He was born of a virgin, His birth was ushered by a star and announced by angels and He was worshipped and praised. In summary, He was/is the “holy one…the Son of God.” And as such, He was born to stand out not fit in. A good look at His life story reveals that Jesus stood out from the crowd. No wonder He continues to gain great recognition in the world today.
Dr. Seuss once asked a very good question, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” As born again Christians, we are called to stand out, to let our light shine. As God’s children, we were born to declare the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9). As we celebrate the extraordinary birth of our Saviour, let’s follow His example of living a life worthy of our calling by standing out not fitting in.
Live in such a way that those who know you, but don’t know God, will come to know God because they know you. -Unknown
