A Change of Direction

Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

(Luke 5:10-11 NIV)

Simon Peter and his companions were fishermen. It wasn’t like they had much choice anyway. One would think that with such a common trade the disciples would be great at it but nothing could be further from the truth. That’s when Jesus stepped in. He allowed them to catch a large number of fish, but not so they could be fishermen but fishers of men.

It amazes me how Jesus took the disciples’ experience and turned it into something meaningful. Perhaps like Simon and his friends, you’re not doing so well at your job right now either. You don’t even find any meaning in it. Let Jesus in. He can take your job and use it for His glory. After all, He has put you there for a reason and with Him, no time or experience is ever wasted.

Jesus can steer us in the right direction.
