The Israelites did evil in the LORD’s sight. They forgot about the LORD their God, and they served the images of Baal and the Asherah poles.
(Judges 3:7 NLT)
Even God’s chosen people were prone to turn their backs on Him. In fact, Israel’s waywardness and God’s mercy is a reoccurring theme in the book of Judges. Every time the Israelites were unfaithful to God, He let them be oppressed by the enemy until the Israelites cried out to God, who faithfully provided a deliverer or judge because God couldn’t bear to see them suffer. Today our allegiance to God is as susceptible as it was for the Israelites thousands of years ago. Many things cry out for our attention and we end up forgetting God too. However, the wonderful thing about God is that He always finds a way to get our attention and when we call out to Him, He’s there to take us back.
No matter how far we wander off, God always waits to take us back.
