It Can Wait

You’re my place of quiet retreat; I wait for your Word to renew me.

(Psalm 119:114 MSG)

I’ve learned that there are some things in life that can wait. The phone call, text message, email or social media notification while I’m spending time with God…it can wait. In fact, if you happen to get interrupted either way while you’re spending time with God, it can definitely wait. I usually have my phone off while I’m having my quiet time with Him. I’ve learned that while God is a patient God, He will not be waiting forever. Trust me when I say that all will still be well if you don’t get to your phone or things “on time.” A big lie of the enemy is that we have to respond to people or things right away, especially when we’re spending time with God! Yet isn’t it interesting how we have caller ID and voice mail to check missed calls? And let’s be honest, none of the interruptions we encounter turn out to be important, after all. How many of the things that you’re usually distracted by turn out to be a real “emergency”? If we struggle to make them wait, God will allow us to experience a time of loneliness so we can be alone with Him. Because it’s often in our aloneness with Him that we discover how much we need to be in His presence. So relax and enjoy your time with God because everything else can wait.

If God is truly first in our lives then everything else comes second place and can wait.
