He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.
(1 Chronicles 4:10 NLT)
Nothing else is known about Jabez, except the fact that he was “more honorable than his brothers” and that his mother named him Jabez because she gave birth to him in pain (1 Chronicles 4:9). However, this man’s simple yet powerful prayer has made him well known. Why? Because he asked for all of the right things. He asked God to bless, prosper and protect him—things that are in keeping with God’s will for His children. When we pray the way Jabez did, we can be sure that God will grant our request too. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15 NIV).
God answers prayers that are in keeping with His will.
