Humility vs. Pride

Too much pride can put you to shame. It’s wiser to be humble.

(Proverbs 11:2 CEV)

Throughout the Bible, humility stands out in sharp contrast to pride, which should make us want to choose humility over pride, but being human, it’s easier said than done. The only time the Bible permits pride is in Jeremiah 9:24, where it tells us that if we’re to boast, we should boast in the Lord. One of the things that I’ve learned to do in order to resist pride in my life is to give God thanks for what He has allowed me to achieve. The world today would rather have us choose pride, but the Bible says that this would only lead to our downfall, and that humility is the right way to go.

To maintain humility, develop a grateful heart.
