The chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of what the people might do.
(Luke 22:2 CEV)
Today, there are still people who try to get rid of Jesus. Besides taking God and prayer out of public schools, not long ago someone also decided that the traditional “Merry Christmas” greeting should be replaced with “Happy Holidays,” the abbreviated date form B.C. (Before Christ) with B.C.E. (Before the Common Era), and remove “God” from the Canadian national anthem (hasn’t happened yet!). But here is the good news. Just as the chief priests and the teachers of the law failed to get rid of Jesus, people today also fail in their endeavours to get rid of Him. He confronts His persecutors and enemies head-on.
People’s attempts to get rid of Jesus are futile.
