Respect Authority

While they were at Hazeroth, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because he had married a Cushite woman. They said, “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he spoken through us, too?” But the LORD heard them.

(Numbers 12:1-2 NLT)

People aren’t perfect, let alone those who are in authority. Nevertheless, God established authority and expects us to respect those He has placed in power, and even pray for them. When Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses, Israel’s leader, the Lord “heard” it and disciplined them for it especially since Moses had done nothing wrong. Sadly, there’s greater disrespect for authority these days, and God continues to call out those who have no regard for it. We’re to obey those in power, except, of course, when what they ask isn’t in keeping with God’s holy law.

Respect for authority is respect for God who established it.
