“For seven days you must live outside in little shelters. All native-born Israelites must live in shelters. This will remind each new generation of Israelites that I made their ancestors live in shelters when I rescued them from the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.”
(Leviticus 23:42-43 NLT)
It’s so easy to forget God’s protection, provision and faithfulness over the years. To help remind the Israelites of what He had done for them during their forty-year journey in the desert, the Lord instructed them to observe the Festival of Tabernacles every year by living in booths–something that they had done in the desert. To this day, practicing Jews worldwide continue to observe this festival. From time to time, we all need a reminder of what God has done for us. The Lord had to remind David of how He had taken him from the pasture and from following the flock to be ruler over Israel (2 Samuel 7:8). Being reminded of what God has done for us will help keep us humble and dependent on Him.
Don’t forget where God brought you from.
