Unworthy

“But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast.”

(Luke 15:22-23 NLT)

Prior to this, the lost son had said, “‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son”’ (Luke 15:21). But the next thing the father says to his servants is “‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast” (vv.22-23). His actions spoke of his acceptance. However, the older son, who showed up later, didn’t like what he saw. Similarly, when we mess up and come running back to God, He accepts us and treats us much better than we deserve. There’ll be people who won’t like that but we can enjoy the party that the Father throws to welcome us back.

God treats us much better than we deserve.
