The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master.”
(Luke 2:10-11 MSG)
We’ve come to expect Christmas to be a joyful time of the year and it is but not based on what is happening around us, but what has been done for us. When Jesus was born, the world wasn’t such a happy place any more than it is today. The Jews were being oppressed by the Romans and longed for a Saviour. So when the angel announced the birth of the Messiah, he truly did “announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide.” Let this same message warm your heart today as you remember that your joy is not dependent on your circumstances, but on Jesus. Only as we focus on Him do we truly experience real joy.
“Happiness depends on happenings; joy depends on Jesus.”
