For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called…Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6 NIV)
The Bible describes peace as an internal state of being. A sense of calm on the inside despite the war that may be raging on the outside, or what many of us would call, a “peace of mind.” And that’s the peace Jesus came to bring, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27 NIV).
While the world longs for peace on the surface, Christians are called to pursue deeper peace, “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). And we attain this peace by drawing closer to the One who was born to be our Prince of Peace. Spending time with Him through prayer and Bible reading and meditation, calms our hearts even during the unprecedented storms of life. Praying that you will know the peace of CHRISTmas.
