I have told them your message. But the people of this world hate them, because they don’t belong to this world, just as I don’t… They don’t belong to this world, and neither do I.
(John 17:14, 16 CEV)
Twice in His prayer, Jesus emphasizes the fact that His followers “don’t belong to this world,” just as He didn’t. This eventually creates animosity between Jesus’ followers and the world. Red flags start to go up when a Christian chooses not to participate in events that are not in line with their beliefs. As a follower of Christ, you don’t belong to this world. Therefore, don’t expect a special treatment from those who are of it.
Christ’s followers live in the world but aren’t of it.
