God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
(Genesis 1:31 NIV)
It’s been often noted that every time God finished creating something, He saw that it was “good,” but after creating everything, including people, He saw that “it was very good.” It sounds to me like God took pride in His amazing work, including you! He didn’t just create you to fill an empty space in the world. He created you for a purpose. You’re here because you matter and you’re part of His plan to restore and sustain goodness in the world.
In a world that has been impacted by evil, we’re called now, more than ever, to rise and “be the change that you want to see in the world,” to quote Gandhi. If we want to see more good in the world, we need to do more good in the world. God created the good He wanted to see in a world that was once dark and empty. We’re His agents of change. With His help, we can go about doing good, as Jesus did, so when we look back at our work one day, we, too, can see that it was indeed, very good.
