A Mile in My Shoes

Be kind and compassionate to one another.

(Ephesians 4:32 NIV)

There’s a quote I’ve seen come up a lot that I appreciate. It says, “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.” My psychology professor once said that it’s easy to give ourselves the benefit of the doubt, but not to others. He went on to give an example of how someone can criticize a person for getting into a car accident and say something like, “I would have never done what that person did.” But the truth is, unless you walk a mile in someone’s shoes, you’ll never have a good understanding of what they had to go through. And God will allow you to walk that mile for you to have more empathy. “Be kind and compassionate to one another,” reminds us the apostle Paul. So always be kind. Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about.
