Post-Resurrection Promises

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” (Mark 16:17-18 NIV)

The part that has stood out to me from these post-resurrection promises is the one about not getting hurt when picking up snakes or drinking poison. We know that the apostle Paul was not hurt when a snake fastened itself on his hand (Acts 28:1-6). But I’m sure the Lord had more than the literal meaning in mind. How many of us have been delivered from toxic situations – relationships, habits, thoughts, words, places? They’re inevitable, but we can be assured of His promise to save us from getting hurt by them. You can count on His resurrection power.
