Once again, this isn’t a chapter in the book, but something I felt the need to write about today. On a day when many people celebrate “love”, it’s easy for those who are single to believe in lies.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with finding – and being – with someone who loves and makes you feel special, especially on Valentine’s Day. But if you only find your worth in someone or something other than God, then be prepared to be disappointed because no one can love us the way He does. It saddens me to hear women who say that a man makes them feel “beautiful and loved.” That’s great, but even if he didn’t, would you still feel the same? Not long ago, I complimented a woman on her new haircut and her response to me was, “Thank you for the encouragement.” I found it odd that she would find a simple compliment like that ‘encouraging.’ She went on to tell me that she was quite confident in herself, but her actions spoke of the need for approval. Confident women don’t seek approval from others, we find it in Christ. God-confidence goes a long way.
The truth is, you are loved and treasured by the One who made you and He says you are beautiful. Ladies (I’m speaking to you here), we can spend our entire lives looking for a man who will love and accept us for who we are and we’ll be truly blessed to find one. But let me tell you something. God wants you to find your identity and worth in Him than in someone else. So while you wait on Mr (or Mrs) Right, learn to embrace God’s unconditional love for you. I promise you that it will make you feel whole not just on Valentine’s Day, but for the rest of your life.
