Father, Forgive Them

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

(Luke 23:24)

Many well-meaning people felt sorry for Jesus while He hung on the cross, but I believe that He actually felt sorry for those who crucified Him. Those who hurt us, intentionally or not, don’t realize that they are hurting deep down themselves. So unaware, they hurt those around them. Is it any wonder that Jesus asked God to ‘forgive them because they know not what they do’? Following His example allows us to heal from the wounds others have caused us so we don’t hurt others in return.
