Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed.
(Acts 9:40 NIV)
Peter had become well known for healing the sick. In Acts chapter five, we’re told, “people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by” (Acts 5:15). That’s why I believe that when it came to raising dead Tabitha, he sent everyone out of the room, so that he wouldn’t draw any attention to himself, but to the One who had given him the power to do so. And that’s exactly what happened because Luke, speaking of this miracle, notes “This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord” (Acts 9:42). Likewise, we’re to remain behind the scenes, so that the Lord will receive all the praise.
When we remain behind the scenes, Jesus receives all the praise.
