The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
(John 1:5)
We’ve all watched a movie where the main character, who also happens to be the hero, is temporarily knocked down by the villain. During this time, we watch as evil reigns and we hope and pray that at some point the hero will get up and restore goodness and order in the world.
I feel like that’s us sometimes. We’re often crushed by the things that happen to us and we seem to lose our strength. There’s a waiting period where we wonder when God will finally step in and make things right again. All the while, this is an opportunity for darkness to prevail.
Yet in this waiting, God is working. He is working in us. And just when the enemy thinks we’re defeated, we rise again, stronger than ever. The apostle Paul testified, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).
The light of Christ will continue to shine in the darkness and the darkness will not overcome it. As His light in the world, we will not be overcome. We will shine brighter.
