The Power of the Word

What God has said isn’t only alive and active! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.

(Hebrews 4:12 CEV)

To counter bullying, little children were mistakenly taught to quote and believe the proverbial saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, history has shown that nothing has more power than words. And in today’s passage, the writer of Hebrews tells us plainly that the Word of God has that power. “What God has said isn’t only alive and active! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.” So while people’s words may not necessarily have a big impact on us, God’s Word has proved to be powerful and effective.

God’s Word is powerful and effective.
