He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.
(Job 8:21 NIV)
When God told Sarah that she would bear Abraham a son at an old age, she laughed. So God named their son Isaac, which in Hebrew means “laughter.” Of course, there was nothing funny about what God had promised her, but every time Sarah called her son’s name, she was reminded of the time she had laughed.
Today, I would like to take this story a step further and say that it is God’s desire to see His children laugh. In Job 8:21, the troubled Job, and all of us today, have God’s sure promise that “He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.” I’m so grateful for friends and family whom God has used to make me laugh. After all, laughter is the best medicine. So be an Isaac, be cheerful and cheer others up!
“A cheerful heart is good medicine.”
Proverbs 17:22
