Someone told David, “Ahithophel is helping Absalom plot against you!” David said, “Please, LORD, keep Ahithophel’s plans from working!”
(2 Samuel 15:31 CEV)
David continued to endure divine discipline because of his sins of adultery and murder. Not only did David lose a child, but he also faced terrible opposition from one of his own sons–Absalom. Sadly, the person who supported Absalom’s plot was Ahithophel, the grandfather of Bathsheba (the woman David had committed adultery with) and David’s advisor. When David realized this, he prayed that God would keep Ahithophel’s plans from working, and God granted his request. I like David’s prayer and I’ve incorporated it into one of my daily prayers because it has made me realize that as God’s children, we also have an Enemy who is constantly planning evil against us. The Bible tells us to “Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack” (1 Peter 5:8). Therefore, God will answer us when we ask Him to keep the devil’s plans from working against us.
Ask God to foil the plans of the Enemy.
