First Love

“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!”

(Revelation 2:4 NLT)

As exciting as first love might be, it can also be quickly forgotten, if it’s not properly nurtured. This seems to have been the case of the church in Ephesus. While its members were commended for their hard work and perseverance, they were also reprimanded for having forsaken their first love. Sadly, our love meter doesn’t read well either. Despite our hard work and perseverance, we’re also running low on love for God and people. Jesus’ warning to the church in Ephesus applies very much to us as well, “Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first” (Revelation 2:5).

Remember your first love and preserve it.
