Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do.”
(John 7:6 NIV)
Jesus always moved according to the will of God. When His brothers tried to persuade Him into going to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles where His claim to Messiahship would be decided, Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do.” And when His enemies tried to seize Him, the Gospel writer once again reminds us that “his hour had not yet come” (John 7:30), and he does so repeatedly (see John 2:4; 7:8; 8:20). Yet, when His time did come, Jesus could say with confidence, “The hour has come” (John 12:23), and moved according to God’s plan for His life. Like Jesus, we’ll encounter people who will try to rush us into doing something because for them any time is right, but if we stay close to God as Jesus did, we’re going to act according to the Father’s right time for us.
God’s right time isn’t our right time.
