New Day, New Mercies

Then I remember something that fills me with hope. The LORD’s kindness never fails! If he had not been merciful, we would have been destroyed. The LORD can always be trusted to show mercy each morning.

(Lamentations 3:21-23 CEV)

God’s new mercies every day should fill us with hope as well. Despite yesterday’s failures and disappointments, we can start anew today because of His mercy. Before acknowledging this, the poet’s mood was quite somber as he dwelt on the sins of his nation, but he was filled with hope as he began to recall the Lord’s kindness toward Israel. He admitted that despite the nation’s terrible sins, it had not been destroyed because of God’s mercy. If you made it through another day, be grateful for the mercy that has been shown to you and let it fill you with hope.

God’s mercies are new each day.
