“You are my Father, my God, the Rock my Savior.”
(Psalm 89:26 NIV)
Jesus’ hearers were in denial. They claimed that Abraham was their father, but failed to have Abraham’s faith. Then they claimed that God was their father, but their actions of hate spoke louder than their words of love. Jesus revealed who their real father was – the devil himself. “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). It’s shocking, isn’t it? This statement was directed at people who claimed to love God. May our actions be in line with our words, so people can tell that our real Father is God Himself.
