Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
(Colossians 3:23 NLT)
A professed atheist once said that one of the things that he liked about Christianity was the idea of doing something with all your heart, but I don’t think he really knew why that is. Writing to the slaves in Colosse, Paul encouraged them to treat the work that they were doing as “for the Lord rather than for people.” Knowing this must have changed their attitude toward work and motivated them to give it their very best because knowing that what I’m doing is for the Lord not for people would encourage me to do the same. It should encourage you to do the same.
Doing something wholeheartedly is a result of knowing for whom we’re doing it.
