A Wasted Trip

One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.

(Luke 5:17 NIV)

What is striking about the Pharisees and the teachers of the law is that they came “from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem” to hear and watch Jesus, yet they weren’t at all transformed by His life-giving words and incredible miracles. These men wasted their time travelling to see Jesus when they wouldn’t accept His teaching (see Luke 5:21-24). In the same way, it won’t matter how far we go to hear God’s Word if we’re not willing to accept it and be changed by it.

Going somewhere, which leads nowhere, is a waste of a trip.
