These six towns will be a place of refuge for Israelites and for foreigners residing among them, so that anyone who has killed another accidentally can flee there.
(Numbers 35:15 NIV)
Where do you run to when you’re wrongly accused and scared? Before entering the Promised Land, the Israelites were instructed to designate six cities of refuge where a person guilty of unintentional murder might escape from blood revenge. The city thus provided a person protection and peace of mind. Today, we don’t have a city of refuge per se, but we do have Someone to whom we can run to flee from fear, anxiety and trouble. The psalmist reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Run to Him today and find protection under His wings.
God is our refuge.
