A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep.”
(John 21:17 NLT)
The thought of Jesus knowing everything is quite comforting. Like Peter in today’s passage, I can rest assured that Jesus knows my heart, which leaves no room for me to defend myself to Him. On the other hand, we try so hard to explain ourselves to others and in the end, we still achieve nothing because we can’t make people understand, or change the way they think. “Lord, you know everything,” was Peter’s perfect answer to Jesus’ question. There was nothing else that needed to be said. Jesus knows all things and that’s what matters because He’s the one to whom we’re accountable.
Jesus knows everything and that’s all that matters.
